The Worst Part of My Job
This is Howie Stanger, Sunrise Movement’s Operations Director.
I want to be honest with you: when I came onto the Sunrise team in December 2017, the first thing I had to do was crush the dreams of my teammates, because we didn’t have enough money do go as big as we wanted. As we head into 2019, I am really hoping that I don’t have to do that again, and I need your help.
We need 300 new monthly donors by the time the ball drops tonight to feel secure enough to move forward with all of our 2019 plans. Thank you to everyone who has already given. Since last Wednesday, 228 of you have generously started your sustained gifts.
Will you help us ring in the new year by getting us to our goal of 300 new monthly donors? (We’ll send all our new monthly donors a Sunrise sticker to say thanks!)
If you’ve saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately and will be charged every month. You can cancel your donation at any time:
In 2018, we wanted to run an electoral fellowship with 300 young people across 10 states. Instead, we could only run Sunrise Semester with 75 people across 5 states. Imagine what we could have done if we had had 300 more monthly donors like you to power our movement.
If we can’t get 300 new monthly donors by the end of 2018, these are the things that we are going to have to choose between:
- Giving in-person training and support to the 100+ new hubs that have started in the past two months
- Running a Speaking Tour that brings the #GreenNewDeal to thousands of people across 10 different states.
- Planning mass-actions that will ensure the Green New Deal is front and center in the 2020 Presidential Primary debate
- Developing a series of trainings that helps people who are likely to be affected by climate disasters tie inaction on climate change to our corrupt political process.
To be able to move these programs forward, we need 300 new monthly donors by midnight, can you be one of them?
Yes, I can give monthly to help Sunrise train thousands of young people in 2019.
No, but I can make a one-time contribution.
We know Sunrise’s funding doesn’t come close to the fossil fuel billionaires’ (or the more established groups). But we also have something they never will: a thriving and tight-knit community rich in its own abundance. We are proud that our movement is powered by monthly donations as small as $1.25 from people all across the country, who give what they can, when they can.
Thanks for helping us get this far,
Howie
